PC David Rathband has been honoured with the 'Role Model' award at the 2010 Pride of Northumberland Awards, held at Alnwick Gardens last night (9th September) Other awards included Sporting Achievement, Safer Community, Community Group, Child Of Courage, Child Of Achievement, Green Champion, and Fundraiser of The Year.

ANT AND DEC TO START GREAT NORTH RUN!

Newcastle’s most famous double act, Ant and Dec will return to their native North East on Sunday 19 September, to officially start the Bupa 30th Great North Run. The Geordie twosome, who are patrons of our charity, Cash For Kids, will wave off the 54,000 runners in Newcastle as runners set off on their 13.1 mile journey to the finish line at South Shields.

New campaign to tackle male suicide in the North East

Men in the North East are being encouraged to talk about their problems instead of using suicide as a way out. It's part of the Samaritans 'Men on the Ropes' campaign. The North East has the second highest suicide rate in the country and men are more than three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Mum charged with murder of 2 year old son

Police have charged Melanie Ruddell with the murder of her two-year-old son Christy after she took his lifeless body into Peterlee Police station last month. The 39 year old from Catle Eden had been receiving hospital treatment following her arrest on the morning of August 9th.

Police probe Wallsend shooting

Police received a call at 5.30pm on Thursday, August 19, reporting an organised fight in North Tyneside. While officers were responding to this information, they received another call a short time later. Just after 6pm police were told that a man had been shot in Quay View, Willington Quay in Wallsend, North Tyneside. Police are linking these two events.
